After we read Island Of The Blue Dolphins we chose a survival book to read I chose The Cay, it was a book about a boy Phillip who gets stuck on an island with a stubborn carribian man, Timothy, This book takes place during world war 2. after we read a good amount of our books, we wrote a letter to someone in the books family as if we were in that person in the books shoes. We are also making a sheet that has to do with how Island Of The Blue Dolphins and The Cay are same and different. Also we wrote, in our reading journal, a reflection of the book we read ( the cay).
Maniac Magee
Reasons Manaic Magee is called a legend: he could run super fast, catch a football from the best thrower in town with one hand, bunt a frog and get a home run out of it, and stand up to bullies.
This I Beleive
I think I did pretty well on my essays, glogs, and such. I listened to most of the songs and podcasts and did pretty well on participating in discussions. When we listened to Dr. King's speech, I learned to understand a lot of it. Throughout this experiece, I learned a lot and started to really understand some of the strategies that writers and speakers use to make a point. On my first peer review for one of my classmates, I don't feel like i did that well helping them with suggestions, but got a little better as i went on. My personal essay and character essay were my best work, though i feel like my character essay was better that my personal one. I think this because i showed she had passion for her beleif and gave pretty good examples. I could have made this better by explaining ameni more. This i beleive unit was great, i think i learned a lot from it.
Final Reflection in L.A. for 5th grade
The reflections above are definataly not all we've done in 5th grade, I guess I forgot some units! In L.A. i loved to read all the books, comparing them to past books we have read in school. I also loved to write. the summeries about the books we read in our Reader Response Journal (RRJ), memories in our writer's notebook. It was fun to get my thoughts out or see what the result was when it was time to write a story.
